OFESAUTO is the SPANISH BUREAU OF VEHICLE INSURES (OFICINA ESPAÑOLA DE ASEGURADORES DE AUTOMOVILES). It is an Association which includes all the insurance entities authorized to work in Spain at the Motor Insurance sector and the Compensation Consortium.

OFESAUTO is a non-profit association. It was created under the aegis of the Associations Act of 7 May 1953. It was authorized by the government to join the Council of National Bureaux on the 28th January 1966.

The rules, which establish the OFESAUTO functioning, were set up for the first time by means of Ministerial Orders issued by the Finance Ministry on the 13th and the 16th May 1965. It was in 1987, soon after Spain had joined the Common Market, when the order of the 25th September which regulates its functions was issued. These functions have been added to the new Regulations about Civil Responsibility and Insurance in the circulation of Motor Vehicles. (Art. 13) RD 7/2001 (BOE 13-01-01).
